AUCTION you say? Well, this name is actually a misnomer. It should
actually be named "Annual Auction and Have-A-Blast" evening.
In addition to being one of our most important money-making
events, it is one of the most fun-times we have. People put up for
sale goodies to eat, paintings, Jersey Pines canoe trips, Pine Barrens
excursions, and personal services. Some of the largest sellers are
dinner evenings in homes - some with entertainment included. Cuisine
has included Greek, southern barbecue, lamb roast, an organic gourmet
feast and a picnic. Some donate the use of their personally owned
vacation homes off season. We've even had a dinner-plus-"Learn
How to Listen to Jazz" evening.
One very unusual item was the sale of an original script
from the TV series MASH signed personally by Alan Alda!
Each auction has a theme - "Mexican Fiesta!; Wild
West Auction; Caribbean Cruise; Back to the 60's" - with people
coming attired appropriately.
In the heat of the bidding (we have a professional auctioneer)
some people do some very unconventional things - with possibly the
most unusual being the biding for the peanut brittle made by Ken
A. The bids reach astronomical and totally illogical heights!
Each auction is a truly enjoyable evening. Come join us
- next time.... |
