THE ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
OF UUCCH

OUR OVERALL ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

UUCCH Organizatiion ChartIn UUCCH, as in all Unitarian Universalist churches, it is the congregation that has the ultimate authority. We have no hierarchy which dictates policies or directions to us. However we belong to and get support from the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) and it's ancillary organizations such as, in our case, the Joseph Priestley District (JPD).

In order to bear the UU name, we do subscribe to the Unitarian Universalist principles and philosophy and support the UUA monetarily. In exchange for our freedom to chose the details of our own way, we willingly accept these responsibilities

THE TEAM STRUCTURE

So the congregation is at the top of our organization chart. The congregation, at it's annual meeting, elects members of the Board of Trustees (BOT) which bears the operational responsibility for the church and also selects the Nominating Committee which searches out applicants for the many Team Leader and Committee Chairmanships in the church. Of course the whole congregation is responsible for calling ministers as the need arises.

The Director of Religious Education, the Director of Music and other staff members report to the Minister but are hired jointly by the BOT, the Minister and the congregation.

The lay people who, in addition to the staff, actually do the detailed work in our church are organized into five teams which have been carefully chosen to cover the major facets of our church's efforts. Each team has a Team Leader and also a specific member of the BOT designated as the Board Liaison. This ensures that the lines of communication both up and down are kept open.

The teams include approximately 30 first-level committees and dozens of individual committees beneath them which fluctuate in number and title as UUCCH's interests and needs vary.
