OUR MUSIC PROGRAM

Few things in life have the ability to change an important happening into a moving important happening. Music does.

MUSIC PROGRAM MISSION

The Music Committee of the UCCH seeks to create and support a diverse music program by encouraging a broad spectrum of musical expression to enhance our worship and enrich our lives.

CHURCH CHOIRS and MUSICIANS

We have an adult choir which sings at worship services several Sundays a month throughout the year. Singing in the choir is fun! Under the Direction of Music Director, Ken Ewan, the choir is open to all who love to sing and will make the commitment to regularly attend weekly choir rehearsals (currently on Wednesday nights at 7:30 p.m.) and on Sundays when the choir sings. We sing music from all periods and origins to enhance the worship experience and illustrate the diversity of traditions from which Unitarian Universalism draws inspiration.

We also have a three octave, 37-bell handbell choir which accepts "ringers" of all ages.

In addition to the choirs, Sunday services are often enriched by the musical gifts of members and friends on piano, flute, violin, viola, guitar, and voice. The level of the talent in the congregation is remarkable and it is delightful to see our members, their children and guests perform.

SPECIAL MUSICAL PROGRAMS

UUCCH hosts special performances by professional musicians. Members of the broader Cherry Hill community are welcome to attend. Most performances are free of charge and the others are modestly priced. During the past several seasons we have hosted an Iranian classical guitar master, a women's a cappella choir (Olympia's Daughters), a jazz concert (Dave Posmontier), piano cabaret (Bill Shimmin and Frank Murphy), a campfire sing along (Tom Kingston), and, thanks to a matching grant from Pennsylvania Performing Arts on tour (PennPAT), a concert by Simple Gifts - "Three women playing twelve instruments performing Romanian, Klesmer, Israeli, English and American music." We recently had Jim Scott visit us for a weekend providing a public Saturday night concert and an inspiring Sunday morning worship service

MUSIC COMMITTEE
Olympia's Daughters.
The Music Committee meets on the second Sunday of every month (except July and August) at 12 noon in the Hillside building. Participation is open to everyone interested in helping guide and promote the musical program at UUCCH. This committee procured our beautiful August Forster piano which was delivered in September 2002, thanks to the generosity of the congregation. An endowment fund has been established to maintain the instrument.

High quality musical programming is vital to both worship and outreach and the Music Committee wants your involvement and input. For information contact either Ken Ewan, Music Director at 856-783-2035 or Chris Spirgel, Music Committee Chair at 856-273-1176.
