COFFEE HOUR

To call the post-Sunday service Coffee Hour a Unitarian Universalist sacrament is perhaps only mildly sacrilegious! It performs the functions of being able to greet and have discussions with one's fellow members and friends. Also it also provides a venue for visitors to come, have some refreshments and, if they so desire, get information about UUCCH from members. During the Sunday Service we ask those visitors who feel comfortable doing so, to raise their hand so we may seek them out during coffee hour. All these are certainly a part of one of our UU principles: "To affirm and promote the inherent dignity and worth of every person."

We rotate the task of manning coffee hour among those who sign up in advance. A sign up white board is found in Fellowship Hall.
As an aid to those taking care of this task for the first time, here are the detailed instructions:

COFFEE HOUR HOSTING

BRING
Bring a half-gallon of homogenized milk for coffee.
Food will be in the freezer, ready for you to use.
If the weather is hot, bring a bag of ice for lemonade, too.

UPON ARRIVAL
Come at 9:15AM.
Immediately push the red button on the built-in coffee maker (to the right side of the pass through).
Put water in small electric urn for tea, and plug in.
Fill LARGE new coffee urn with water up to 60C (in summer) and 80 cups (in fall, winter, spring).
Put 6C (or 8C) of regular coffee in the filter basket.
Plug in and turn on.

Remove 6 boxes of food from the freezer. Also check the refrigerator to see if there is left over food you
might also serve.
Place the food on trays ready to be put on the tables in the hall.

On a cart, place hot cups (lower cupboard left of stove), cold cups, sugars, stirrers, napkins, milk, tea bags, and basket/sign for donations .

Make a thermos of lemonade. Use a combination of powdered mix and concentrate in freezer.

Spread trash cans, lined with bags, around serving area.

MAKING DECAF COFFEE
Twenty minutes later the green light will come on and it is ready to make drip coffee.
Place a filter in the basket and 1 C of ground decaf coffee.
Place an open thermos under the basket.
Press the green button ONCE and dripping will begin.
Within 5 minutes you can brew another thermos, if needed.

DO NOT FORGET TO TURN OFF THE RED BUTTON BEFORE YOU
LEAVE!

CLEAN UP
Wash the tablecloths off and let them dry on the table
before folding and putting away.
Rinse out with hot water (never soap!) all the coffee containers, and leave open to air dry.
Wash any knives, all the trays, and creamers. Dry and put everything away.
Return all the napkins, stirrers, etc. to the cart, all set for next Sunday!
Make sure the automatic coffee machine turned is off.

Take out any $ owed to you from the baskets.
Put the rest of the cash in an envelope with a deposit slip and put in Ivan’s (Pledge Secretary) deposit box by mailboxes in Unitarian House.

Any wet tea towels need to be taken home and washed, if you don’t mind. Or you can drape them over
cabinet doors to dry.

Thank you SO much for hosting coffee hour!
You are now a veteran!
